What’s Included in Our Interior Painting Service
Our service covers the full scope of interior surfaces — not just walls. Every project is assessed individually so the right prep, finish, and approach is matched to your property.

Wall and Ceiling Painting
All interior surfaces, including cornicing, coving, and ceiling roses. We handle every wall and ceiling in your home with care and precision.
Woodwork
Skirting boards, door frames, architraves, dado rails, and picture rails. Every piece of woodwork finished to a high standard.
Doors
Interior doors in gloss, eggshell, or satinwood. We match the finish to the style of your property.
Feature Walls
Accent finishes, bold colours, or textured effects. A well-painted feature wall transforms the character of any room.
Multi-Room Projects
73% of Preston homes are houses rather than flats, so most projects span more than one room. We coordinate colours and finishes across the whole interior so everything works together.
For projects covering both interior and exterior, see our house painting page. Call 01772 211 886 to discuss your rooms and get a quote.
Our Interior Painting Process
Step 1: Protection
We cover floors with heavy-duty dust sheets, wrap furniture where possible, and seal doorways during dusty prep phases.
Step 2: Surface Preparation and Repair
We fill cracks, sand rough patches, repair blown plaster, and prime surfaces as required. For lime plaster walls, we use a breathable primer — not standard vinyl emulsion.
For new plasterboard, we apply a diluted mist coat first to prevent flashing. Preparation is where quality is determined.
Step 3: Paint Application
We apply two to three finish coats using trade-quality brushes and rollers. Clean lines at all ceiling junctions, doorframes, and architraves. Each coat dries fully before the next.
Step 4: Final Check and Cleanup
We remove all protection materials, clean up, and walk through every room with you. Any touch-ups are done on the spot.

Interior Painting Costs in Preston
Important: Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. For a precise quote, call 01772 211 886.
Typical Price Ranges
Single room (standard): £300–£600. 2–3 room project: £800–£1,500. Whole-house interior: £2,000–£5,000+.
Prices vary by room size, ceiling height, wall condition, number of coats, and period features.
Ceiling Height
Victorian and Edwardian properties in Fulwood and Winckley Square often exceed 3m. Tall ceilings require scaffolding or specialist access equipment, adding to the cost.
Wall Condition and Coats
Crack filling, plaster repair, or mist coating adds cost. Covering dark colours or bare plaster needs extra coats. Painting skirting, doors, and architraves throughout adds to the overall price.

Choosing the Right Paint Finish
The right finish affects how long the paint lasts, not just how it looks. We advise on finish selection as part of every quote.

Matt
Best for bedrooms and formal dining rooms. Hides imperfections well. Avoid on damp-prone walls as matt absorbs moisture.
Satin
Ideal for hallways and living rooms. Wipes clean, handles daily use, and provides a soft sheen. We recommend satin on all external-facing walls in Preston’s humid climate.
Eggshell
Suited to kitchens and high-contact surfaces. Grease and moisture resistant, making it a practical choice for busy households.
Moisture-Resistant and Anti-Mould
Essential for bathrooms and poorly ventilated rooms. Specialist formulations that prevent mould growth in high-humidity conditions.
Why Lancashire’s Climate Matters
Preston’s humid climate creates a specific challenge. Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Ashton and Ribbleton have solid external walls with no cavity. In winter, cold walls cause condensation on interior surfaces.
Matt paint absorbs this moisture — leading to patchy, mouldy walls within a year or two. For properties with original lime plaster, we use breathable paint formulations that let moisture move through the wall naturally.

Interior Painting for Preston’s Property Types
Preston’s housing stock spans nearly 200 years of construction. Each era has its own challenges. Rose Decor has worked across all of them.
Victorian Terraces (Ashton, Ribbleton, Frenchwood)
These homes have solid brick walls, lime plaster interiors, and no cavity to prevent moisture transfer. We use breathable emulsions on lime plaster, satin on external-facing surfaces, and careful prep where plaster has blown or cracked. We never apply gypsum-based fillers to original lime plaster without compatibility checks.
Edwardian Properties with Period Features (Fulwood, Winckley Square)
Fulwood’s Edwardian streets have tall ceilings, deep skirting boards, picture rails, and original woodwork. Winckley Square and the Avenham conservation area include ornate plaster cornicing, ceiling roses, and decorative mouldings — these need careful masking and cutting in.
We paint cornicing profiles cleanly, apply satinwood to original woodwork, and preserve the character of these homes. For more on period homes, see our period property painting page.
Modern New Builds (Cottam, Ingol, Longton)
New builds use plasterboard partitions with smooth, primed surfaces. These need careful preparation to avoid flashing — uneven sheen from variations in porosity. We apply a mist coat or appropriate primer before the finish coat to prevent a patchy result.
City Centre Conversions and Apartments (Preston PR1)
Preston’s city centre has a growing number of apartment conversions. These spaces often have exposed brick, concrete surfaces, or uneven heritage finishes. We use appropriate primers and coatings matched to the substrate.

Whatever your property type, we match the right preparation, primer, and finish to your walls. Call 01772 211 886 to discuss your home.
Interior Painting by Room
Every room has different demands. Here’s how we approach each one.
Living Room Painting
The living room is where finish quality is most visible. We use satin or estate-finish emulsions for a warm, subtle sheen. We handle feature walls, ceilings, and woodwork in a single visit where possible. See our living room painting page for full detail.
Bedroom Painting
Bedrooms suit low-VOC paints and a calm, matt finish. On external-facing walls in Preston’s Victorian terraces, we recommend satin to prevent condensation damage. See our bedroom painting page for bedroom-specific advice.
Hallway Painting
Hallways take more daily contact than any other room. We use hard-wearing satin as standard on walls, with gloss or satinwood on handrails, skirtings, and door frames. See our hallway painting page for more guidance.
Kitchen Painting
For kitchen walls, we use a washable eggshell or satin that handles cooking grease and steam. For kitchen cabinets, see our kitchen cabinet painting service — a specialist spray process rather than standard wall emulsion.
Bathroom and Ceiling Painting
Bathrooms need moisture-resistant and anti-mould formulations. Ceilings show roller marks and uneven patches more than walls — we use flat ceiling white applied evenly to eliminate texture variations. In period properties, we paint ornate cornicing and ceiling roses by hand.

Rose Decor also handles staircase painting, dining room painting, feature wall painting, and wallpapering as part of the complete interior decorating service.
